Akron Children’s Hospital has partnered with Aultman Hospital to operate Aultman’s neonatal intensive care unit and its maternal fetal medicine practice.
The 25-bed NICU is a Level 3 perinatal facility that provides specialty care for premature and high-risk infants. The NICU is in the Aultman Birth Center, 2600 6th St. SW in Canton.
“As Aultman’s pediatric partner, we are proud to expand our neonatal intensive care and maternal fetal medicine services in Stark County,” Grace Wakulchik, president and CEO of Akron Children’s, said in a news release. “We value our 10-year partnership with Aultman and are happy that we can keep these vital services here, close to the families we serve.”
The new arrangement with Aultman expands on the existing collaboration between the two organizations. Akron Children’s operates the 27-bed inpatient pediatric unit at Aultman Hospital. Additionally, Akron Children’s outpatient subspecialty services recently moved to the new Akron Children’s Health Center on the Aultman north campus, which opened in May.
“For nearly 50 years, the Aultman NICU has provided exceptional care to families and their newest members, and we’re proud to partner with Akron Children’s yet again to keep these essential services available in our community,” Chris Remark, CEO of Aultman Healthcare Delivery System, said in the release.
This change adds Aultman to the other NICUs that Akron Children’s operates, which includes Cleveland Clinic Akron General, Summa Health Akron City Hospital and St. Elizabeth Boardman Hospital. The hospital also operates special nurseries in Wooster, Boardman and Warren.
