An Airlift pellet gun was confiscated from a Shaker Heights High School student May 16 at the school, interim Principal David Glasner wrote in a message that appears on the school district's website.
"This afternoon, a student reported to administrators that another student had brought an Airsoft pellet gun to school," Glasner wrote. "School officials confiscated the pellet gun without incident. School operations remained normal.
"Our school is committed to the safety and security of all our students and staff. Essential to this commitment is open communication with parents and the community about safety issues when they arise. We always encourage our students that if they see something, to say something. We thank our students for coming forward today, and we encourage students, staff and families to continue to report any safety concerns."
Glasner will become superintendent in mid-June, replacing interim Superintendent Stephen Wilkins, who will become chief of human resources at Alexandria (Va.) Public Schools.
On May 10 the district announced a principal for the high school: Shaker Heights resident Eric Juli, head of school of the Design Lab Early College High School at the Cleveland Metropolitan School District.
